New Dorp is one of older and more established neighborhoods on Staten Island. New Dorp stretches from the water front to Richmond Road. The area has a feel of a small town, with stores and shops on New Dorp Ln, and tree lined residential streets all around it. New Dorp homes below Hylan Blvd include bungalows, ranches, and semi-attached homes. Many of these homes are newer construction, from 1990's or later. The homes above Hylan Blvd are typically detached, one or two story, and include ranches, colonials, and capes. Most of them were built during the first hafl of 20th century, but there are also some newer homes built in the area. The neighborhood is home to a number of schools, including the highly rated Staten Island Technical High School. It has its own train station, public library, and post office.
